Five Tips to Help you Calm the F*ck Down
Adulting can be hard. Jobs, kids, partners, pandemics - the world seems full of things that can stress you right the f*ck out.
At {ther*happy}, we know how it is. But we also know that if you can arm yourself with some simple techniques to help you relax and recharge, adulting doesn’t seem like such a struggle.
Here are our 5 favorite techniques to help you calm the f*ck down when things get crazy:
- Breathe. Find a quiet place and sit in silence with your eyes closed. Breathe in for a count of four, then out for a count of four. Pay attention to your body and try to tune out any intrusive thoughts and focus on your breath. Repeat this up to five times.
- Take a hike. Walking outdoors, whether it’s on a city sidewalk or a secluded trail, can really help you find your inner peace. Fresh air, sunlight, and the sounds of nature can be very healing and restorative.
- Write. Those who have developed the habit of journaling can attest to its power. Start with five minutes a day, writing down whatever comes to your mind – even if it’s only your “to-do” list! Getting tasks, worries, and negative thoughts out of your head and onto paper can be remarkably therapeutic. There is no right or wrong way to journal; the key is to keep doing it until it becomes a habit.
- Stay in Now. No matter what you are doing - working, relaxing, or socializing, try to stay present in the moment. We often allow our worries, plans, and other mind clutter to cloud our thoughts and interfere with the task or issue at hand. Try reminding yourself that you are here, you are loved, and you are okay - in this moment.
- (You knew this was coming…) Spritz! Yup, the Lavender, Tangerine, and Lemon essential oils in our Calm the F*ck Down and Go the F*ck to Sleep mists can promote peace, relaxation, and giving fewer f*cks.
